Wet Nursing
nursing with milk
Wet nursing means nursing with actual milk, usually within an adult nursing relationship (ANR). It’s the counterpart to dry nursing (nursing for comfort without milk), and it often involves inducing lactation — which is possible without pregnancy.
Wet vs dry nursing
Dry nursing is nursing for closeness and comfort without milk; wet nursing involves milk. Many couples enjoy dry nursing indefinitely, while others work toward lactation — both are complete, valid forms of an ANR.
Inducing lactation
A body can be encouraged to produce milk without pregnancy, through regular nursing/pumping and sometimes hormonal protocols. It takes patience and works best approached gently, together.
Common questions
What is wet nursing in an ANR?
Nursing with milk production, as opposed to dry nursing (for comfort without milk). It often follows inducing lactation, which is possible without pregnancy.
Do you have to lactate for an ANR?
No. Many adult nursing relationships are entirely dry — comfort and bonding without milk. Lactation is optional.
